Privacy Policy
Last updated: September 2026
ScanMeSite (“we”, “us”) is operated by BitMentors Inc., a Canadian company. This policy explains what personal information we collect when you visit scanmesite.com (the “Site”), why we collect it, who we share it with, and the choices and rights you have over it.
1. Information we collect
You don't need an account to read anything on the Site — tutorials and blog posts are free and open to everyone. An account is only created if you log in to enroll in a course under Learn. We collect information in these ways:
- Newsletter sign-up: if you subscribe, we collect the email address you provide.
- Learner accounts: if you log in to enroll in a course, we collect your email address (used only to sign you in — passwordless, via a one-time code) and store which courses you're enrolled in and which lessons you've completed, so you can pick up where you left off.
- Automatically, via cookies and similar technology: your IP address, approximate location, browser and device type, pages viewed, and referring pages — this is collected by Google Analytics and Google AdSense, described below.
- Cookie preference: a small flag stored in your browser's local storage recording that you've dismissed our cookie notice. It contains no personal information and never leaves your device.
2. How we use this information
- To send you the newsletter you signed up for;
- To sign you in to your learner account and track your course progress;
- To understand how visitors use the Site, so we can improve it;
- To serve advertising, including ads personalized based on your interests;
- To detect and prevent abuse of the Site.
We don't sell your email address, and we don't use it for anything other than what's described above.
3. Cookies
We use three categories of cookies/local storage:
- Strictly necessary — the local flag that remembers you've seen our cookie notice.
- Analytics — Google Analytics 4 cookies, used to measure traffic and usage patterns.
- Advertising — Google AdSense cookies, used to serve and measure ads, including personalized ads based on your browsing.
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings at any time; doing so may affect how the Site displays but won't stop it from loading.
4. Third-party services we use
- Google Analytics 4 — usage analytics. See Google's Privacy Policy.
- Google AdSense — advertising. Google and its partners may use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this or other websites. You can opt out of personalized advertising via Google's Ads Settings.
- Kit (ConvertKit) — our newsletter provider. If you subscribe, your email is stored with Kit and used solely to send you updates from ScanMeSite. See Kit's Privacy Policy. You can unsubscribe at any time via the link in any email we send.
- Brevo — sends the one-time sign-in code when you log in as an admin or learner. Your email address is passed to Brevo only to deliver that single email; it isn't added to any marketing list. See Brevo's Privacy Policy.
Some of these providers are based in, or process data in, the United States. By using the Site, you understand your information may be transferred to and processed in countries other than your own, which may have different data protection laws.
5. Data retention
We keep your newsletter email for as long as you remain subscribed, and delete it (or anonymize it) within a reasonable time after you unsubscribe. We keep your learner account and course progress for as long as the account exists; contact us to have it deleted. Analytics and advertising data is retained by Google according to Google's own retention settings, which we don't control.
6. Data security
We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect the information we hold, including restricting access and using reputable, security-conscious infrastructure providers. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we can't guarantee absolute security.
7. Children's privacy
The Site isn't directed at children under 13 (or under 16 in the EU/UK), and we don't knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we'll delete it.
8. Your rights
Canada (PIPEDA)
As a Canadian company, we comply with the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA). You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information by contacting us at the email below.
European Economic Area & UK (GDPR)
If you're located in the EEA or UK, you have the right to access, correct, delete, or port your personal information, restrict or object to its processing, and withdraw consent at any time (which won't affect processing that already happened). To exercise any of these rights, contact us at the email below.
California (CCPA/CPRA)
If you're a California resident, you have the right to know what personal information we collect, request its deletion, and opt out of its “sale” or “sharing” (as those terms are defined under California law) — which, on this Site, refers to the advertising cookies described above. You can opt out via Google's Ads Settings or by contacting us directly. We don't sell personal information for money.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the “Last updated” date above. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
